Balitraveldiary.com – Mandala Wisata Wena Wana or better known as Ubud Monkey Forest (Monkey Forest Ubud) is a nature reserve and temple complex in Ubud, Bali. This area is home to about 340 monkeys known as long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis). There are four groups of monkeys, each occupying a different area in the park. The Sacred Monkey Forest has become a popular tourist attraction in Ubud and is often visited by more than 10,000 tourists a month.

In the Monkey Forest, you can walk and enjoy the calm atmosphere. The forest consists of about one-tenth of a square kilometer (about 27 hectares) and contains at least 115 different tree species. Monkey Forest contains Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal which is also a “Source of Purity” and is also used for cremation ceremonies.

Jalan Hutan Monkey also provides many restaurant choices, ranging from western cuisine to Balinese dishes. Remember to visit the Bengil Duck about 500 meters from there. This restaurant is a popular restaurant on Jalan Hanoman, which is famous for its features: fried/roasted duck. Also, try the ribs. They will make you want more. Shops in the Ubud Monkey Forest itself offer a variety of beads, baskets, wood carvings, ikat textiles, paintings, and silver jewelry.

Walking around Ubud is an experience in itself. There is a famous story told by Janet DeNeefe, initiator of the Ubud Readers & Writers Festival, that once a speaker has an obstacle before the event and decides to go for a walk around Ubud. He was so fascinated by the beautiful scenery that he forgot to return for his talk show.

You can also rent bikes or motorbikes. Many visitors prefer bicycles because of environmental reasons. However, because Ubud is in a mountainous area, the road tends to be steep. If you feel tired to paddle, the choice of the motorbike is a more reasonable choice. Cars are usually only used when you want to go outside Ubud.

Ubud is about an hour and a half drive from the airport. Taxis are available at the airport. Every travel agent in Denpasar can also take you there.
