Balitraveldiary.com – Bali is not only blessed with enchanting natural beauty, but also abundant artistic and cultural riches. The richness of art and culture is represented by the existence of the Bali Cultural Park as a place to accommodate the creativity of Balinese artists.
The construction of the Bali Cultural Park began with the idea of developing a Balinese arts center project initiated by Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Matra while serving as Director General of Culture, Ministry of Culture and National Education in 1969.
Occupying an area of 5 hectares, the Bali Cultural Park was originally named “Werdhi Budaya” which can be interpreted as an arts center or art center. The construction of this cultural park is planned in a very mature and serious manner. The buildings are arranged nicely. The construction of the Bali Cultural Park has adapted the philosophical meaning of the rotation of Mount Mandara Giri, which was implemented in the name of the buildings contained in this complex.
The main building in the complex of Taman Budaya Bali is called Ksirarnawa. The name comes from Sanskrit which means sea of milk. The pinning of the name implies that every activity held can quench thirst for the world of arts and culture. The Ksirarnawa building occupies 5,500 m2 of land. This two-story building can accommodate up to 525 people.
Across the Ksirarnawa Building, there is another building that is no less majestic. The stage-shaped building named Ardhacandra. “Ardhacandra” means the half circle of the moon – like the shape of this building. Ardhacandra is an open stage that is usually used as a place to play theater, gong drama, Balinese colossal performances, and various other artistic activities. Occupying an area of 7,200 m2, Ardhacandra is able to accommodate an audience of approximately 7,000 people.
For smaller scale art performances, Taman Budaya Bali also has Angsoka and Ayodya circles. These buildings are commonly used by students who want to contribute to the development of art in Bali. Angsoka and Ayodya are commonly used as dance, music and theater performances. In another part, there is also a space that holds various Balinese art objects such as sculptures, masks, paintings and Balinese gamelan sets.
As a center for arts and culture, Bali Cultural Park is equipped with facilities to support activities around arts and culture. The process of maintaining and preserving these facilities is in line with the process of continuing to revive cultural parks with a variety of cultural performances and discussions, so that the arts remain alive and Indonesian culture is maintained.
