The Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park

Balitraveldiary.com – Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) is a giant sculpture by one of the famous sculptors from Bali, Nyoman Nuarta. The statue is in the form of Batara Vishnu, riding the legendary Garuda as a symbol of Amerta, an eternal virtue.

The statue, which is still in the works, is made of 4,000 tons of copper and brass. According to the plan, when it is finished, this statue will stand as high as 150 meters with a wingspan of Garuda reaching 64 meters. GWK will be the biggest statue in the world.

This statue is made in stages, part by part. At present, there are three fragments of sculpture that have stood in three separate areas. The first part is the 23-meter high statue of Lord Vishnu, which is currently placed on the highest peak in the Ungasan Hills area.

The second statue is the Statue of Garuda. The statue is placed in the middle of the area called the Lotus Pond (The Lotus Pond), which is a decreasing area with giant limestone rock boxes on the right and left. The third part is the hand of Vishnu. This statue was temporarily placed in a location called Tirta Agung.

GWK was established on an area of ​​240 hectares which was designed to be a world-class cultural park that features entertainment and cultural performances for local and foreign communities.

This area will later be expected to become a landmark and symbol of pride and characteristics for the Province of Bali. Not only that, GWK is also designed to be the main vehicle for artistic performances, exhibitions and other grand events – aside from being a recreational destination and a family leisure arena.

On the left side of the entrance to this area, there is an amphitheater stage. On this stage, every day a number of traditional Balinese dances are performed. The Balinese dances that were staged included cilinaya dance, old mask dance, cenderawasih dance, legong palace dance, row dance, and barong rangda dance.

These dances are shown every hour, between 10:00 to 17:00 WITA. In addition to these dances, in the afternoon, the joged bumbung dance and kecak dance were also staged.

GWK Cultural Park can be an alternative destination for those who want a vacation that is more meaningful than just family recreation. This Cultural Park is located in the Jimbaran area, the southern side of Denpasar.
