Location of Pura Luhur Batukaru

Located in the western part of the island of Bali on the southern slope of Mount Batukaru in the village of Wongaya Gede, Penebel District, Tabanan Regency, Pura Luhur Batukaru is a place of worship of God as Ratu Hyang Tumuwuh which means God is the one who grows. It is about 46 km from Denpasar city.

History of Pura Luhur Batukaru

Pura Luhur Batukaru was founded by an Mpu who came from Java, namely Mpu Kuturan in the 11th century. This temple is often used for meditation to gain peace of mind and to achieve balance in life by maintaining spiritual balance, sea, forest, lake, earth, and individual. Pura Luhur Batukaru is also known as the Padma Bhuwana Temple, namely nine temples located in nine corners of the island of Bali.

At the location of this temple, visitors will find several ancient artifacts in the form of Menhirs and “Pestgih Kampuh” (carved or shaped stones). These artifacts are widely scattered in the front yard of Pura Luhur Batukaru. Menhir buildings and statues are often found because in the megalithic era, all areas of life in society were centered on respecting and worshiping ancestral spirits.
