Kerta Gosha the historical sites in Bali

Balitraveldiary.com – Kertha Gosa, a historic building that is part of the heritage of the Klungkung Royal Palace. But around 1908, when the Dutch entered Bali, Kertha Gosa changed its function to become a place of justice. Literally, Kertha Gosa derived from Sanskrit can be interpreted as a place to talk about all matters relating to security, peace, prosperity, and justice.

In this location, there is a museum where we can see various artifacts and other historical objects which are the relics of the Kingdom of Klungkung. There is a carved table which is equipped with six chairs which are also decorated with carvings. The table and chairs are the places where the law enforcers meet.

Each seat has a specific symbol that describes the position of law enforcement. The chair whose arms are decorated with lion-shaped sculptures is the seat of the king who also acts as the chief judge. The chair which has a sculptured ox is the seat of the priest who serves as a lawyer and also the king’s advisor in making every decision. And armrests decorated with dragon-shaped sculptures are seats for kanca or clerks. While the litigants, both the plaintiff and the defendant, sat on the floor in cross-legged positions with polite manners.

Several paintings and engravings adorn the ceiling of the building, each depicting interesting stories. One of them tells about the punishment received by humans in the afterlife according to their respective karmas, which are based on their actions in the world. And there are many more stories that are told through paintings and carvings whose characters are tangible puppets.

The Kertha Gosa tourism object is located in the heart of Semarapura City, which is the capital of Klungkung Regency, located about 40 kilometers east of Denpasar City. This location can be reached by motorized vehicle, and takes about 45 minutes via Jl. Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra.
